Introducing CalREN

California Regional Energy Networks

What is CalREN?

CalREN stands for California Regional Energy Networks. We are a new statewide collaborative for California’s five regional energy networks, or RENs. RENs are authorized by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) to serve as program administrators and deliver energy programs to local communities. CalREN’s members work together, leverage each other’s local knowledge, and develop holistic approaches to administering energy-saving programs.

Regional energy networks are an integral part of California’s energy landscape. Our combined service territories span the state, encompassing 86% of our population. CalREN will ensure RENs work together to share resources and knowledge, use ratepayer funds cost-effectively, avoid duplicating services and customer confusion, speak with a unified voice in stakeholder engagement processes, and amplify their shared interest in issues that affect their communities.
